Applications for entry into the Prosper Rotary Club, Prosper Lions Club and Prosper Police Department Christmas Parade are now being accepted, says Assistant Police Chief Gary McHone, who is also a member of both the Rotary Club and the Lions Club.
“We’re accepting applications from community groups, civic organizations, families, individuals, scout troops, businesses and anyone else who’s interested in being a part of this great event,” he said.
The parade, a tradition in Prosper for the last several years, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5 with a 2 p.m. start. Staging area is the parking lot of Rucker Elementary School at Craig St. and First St. Participants are expected to begin the lineup at 1:15 p.m. on the day of the parade.
Deadline to enter is Saturday, Nov. 21. Applications can be obtained by visiting http://www.prosperparksandrec.org/events.aspx and downloading the form. Entrants must complete a form and submit a check for $45 made payable to the Prosper Rotary Club, and mail both items to: Lions/Rotary Club of Prosper Christmas Parade, PO Box 643, Prosper, TX 75078.
“A portion of the entry fee will be donated to the Cops with a Claus program,” said McHone. The program provides gift certificates to families in need in the local area. The funds are designed to ease financial hardships during the Christmas season.
Among the entries being sought for the parade are floats, marching bands, walking groups, dance groups, drill teams, antique cars or tractors, unusual vehicles, live animals, horses and riders, dogs on leashes and other traditional parade participants. The parade’s final entry is always Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The approximately one-mile route proceeds north from the school on Craig St. to Broadway St. where it turns west, concluding at the site of the Prosper Christmas Festival on Broadway St. in the downtown area.
“We’re always looking for new and exciting entries,” he added. “Hopefully, we will have lots of participation.”
