After all the bells have finished jingling, the sleigh rides are over, the gifts are opened, the wrapping paper crumbled up, and the elf on the shelf is back in the box, it will be time to recycle the Christmas tree.
Prosper is accepting all once-live Christmas trees at a central drop-off point starting on New Year’s Day and continuing until Sunday, Jan. 14.
The unattended discarding spot is located in the parking area on the south side of First St. immediately west of the Central Fire Station, 1500 East First St. The site is open 24 hours a day, and there is no charge for the service. Trees will be chipped into mulch, which will be used locally.
Trees should be completely stripped of all ornaments, tinsel, garland, aluminum icicles, lights, electric cords, strings and other decorations. Trees must also be removed from stands, wooden or metal, and should not be wrapped in plastic or paper.
Flocked trees are not accepted at the site. These should be encased in plastic and placed alongside the monthly bulk trash pickup. Scheduling bulk trash pickup requires a call to Waste Connections at 469-452-8000.
