Jumpstart Your Fitness Routine by Participating in the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge January 18 – April 18

PROSPER (January 14, 2022) Prosper residents are invited to get up, get moving and get engaged in the 2022 Mayor’s Fitness Challenge! Track the minutes you spend exercising and be a part of the community focus on fitness after the holidays! Mayor Ray Smith and Prosper Parks and Recreation issue the challenge each year as a fun way to turn attention to health and wellness. Participants who document an average of 90 fitness minutes per week during the challenge (a total of a minimum of 1,170 minutes) and turn in a completed tracking sheet will earn a free t-shirt and be entered to win a Fitbit. All ages are eligible to participate! Visit ProsperTX.gov to register and download the tracking sheet.

The parameters of the challenge have been expanded for 2022. All types of exercise qualify for tracking! This expansion of fitness options adds flexibility so that time spent in the gym or fitness class is trackable. Any type of exercise may be documented at any time of day. Successfully completing the Challenge means a participant has logged a total of 1,170 fitness minutes during the Challenge, from January 18 through April 18. Tracking sheets may be uploaded or emailed through April 24. Mayor Smith and the Town Council members will recognize Mayor’s Fitness Challenge participants at a 2022 Council meeting and the Fitbit recipient will be announced at that time.

“If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get in shape, this year’s challenge is a tremendous way to start.  There are few things more important than good health,” says Mayor Ray Smith.  “I encourage residents to form fitness groups and work out, walk, run or bike together.  That way, we can hold each other accountable.  I’ll be logging my time and I hope to see my neighbors and friends doing the same thing.”

How to be a part of the 2022 Mayor’s Fitness Challenge:

  1. Register and download the tracking sheet.
  2. Exercise at least 1,170 minutes (an average of 90 minutes weekly) from January 18 through April 18.
  3. Document your fitness minutes on the tracking sheet.
  4. Turn in the completed tracking sheet no later than April 24 to be entered to win a Fitbit and earn a free t-shirt!

Participants may earn a second entry into the Fitbit drawing by sending in a selfie that includes a Town of Prosper park or trail sign. Share your workout photos with us by using #ProsperMFC or email a photo to Trevor Helton at thelton@prospertx.gov.
