Cited for her work with the Parks and Recreation Board as a tireless volunteer and supporter, Barbara Cottone has been named Advocate of the Year for 2015 by the North Region of the Texas Recreation and Park Society, says Parks and Recreation Manager Will Mitchell.
The award recognizes a group or individual who has made a significant contribution to parks and recreation in their community, specifically in the areas of volunteering, service and support of leisure service programs.
“Barbara has been an incredible asset for Prosper through the years,” he said. “Her level of knowledge, along with her vision and experience in the field have made a difference in the quality of our programs and facilities. We have been extremely fortunate to have her in Prosper.”
Cottone retired from the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Richardson, and moved to Prosper, where she was appointed to the Prosper Parks and Recreation Board in 2012. She currently serves as Board Chair. During the development of the Parks Master Plan over the last two years, she served as Chair of the Advisory Committee. The Master Plan was completed earlier this year and approved by the Town Council in the fall.
“She is the consummate volunteer,” added Mitchell. “Her level of energy is matched only by her level of commitment to making Prosper a model for parks and recreation programs. She serves as a visionary for our Board, a mentor for our staff and an advocate for our programs.”
