Prosper to observe Labor Day, trash collection shifts one day

Trash and recycling pickup shifts one day for the week

Administrative offices, Municipal Court and the Community Library will all close on Monday, Sept. 7 to commemorate the Labor Day celebration, says Town Secretary Robyn Battle.

“Labor Day is a time to recognize the work accomplished by the American labor force,” she said. “And, that certainly includes the people who police our streets, fight our fires, plan and maintain our parks, keep our streets in good working order, and oversee the Town’s quality of life.”

The holiday will also affect trash and recycling collection. Progressive Waste Solutions, the Town’s contractor for refuse pickup, will implement in the holiday shift, even though there is no normal collection on Mondays in Prosper.

“Prosper residents who normally have trash and recycling collection service on Tuesdays will be serviced on Wednesday of that week,” she said. “Similarly, those with normal Friday pickup service will have their trash and recycling collected on Saturday.”

The schedule resumes to its normal days during the week of Sept. 14.

While administrative offices will close on Labor Day, emergency personnel, including police, fire, EMS and 9-1-1 dispatch will all operate on a normal Monday schedule.

“Our first responders, including the operators at 9-1-1, will be on full schedule,” added Battle. “For them, it’s a normal work day. And, while they do not seek any form of recognition, a kind word to those of them who are out and about would certainly be appropriate. Of course, calls to 9-1-1 should be restricted to true emergencies. “

Office hours return to normal on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
