Looking to increase the number of donors from last fall’s record-setting blood drive, the Prosper Community Library is once again partnering with the Prosper Chamber of Commerce and other organizations on the spring drive, says Prosper Librarian Leslie Scott.
“Prosper’s standing as the state’s community of its size with the highest one-day contributions is certainly a point of pride,” she said. “If we can push our numbers even higher, we can solidify our place in the top spot.”
Carter Blood Care, the blood bank that partners with local organizers, reported that the previous drive’s 39 pints, collected during the four-hour drive, was the highest number of blood units collected for a community the size of Prosper.
The next drive, which Scott says has a goal of at least 40 pints, is set for Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the American Bank of Texas, 100 N. Preston Road.
In addition to the Community Library and the Chamber of Commerce, other sponsoring organizations include the Town of Prosper, the Prosper Economic Development Corporation, the Prosper Rotary Club, and the Prosper Lions Club.
Each organization has pledged to encourage its members to consider donating a pint, and to invite friends, neighbors and relatives to do so as well. Carter Blood Care is planning to use two blood mobile collection units to accommodate the anticipated contributors.
In addition, the Chamber is inviting its medically-oriented members to set up booths in the parking area of the bank and participate in a mini-health fair. Attendees will be able to visit with these providers and gather health-related information as well as find out about each providers’ services.
