Summer Parks and Rec programming is the answer to the question

April 17, 2018

Prosper’s Parks and Recreation has the perfect answer for the yearly question that vexes many parents as summer approaches – “What are the kids going to do once school is out?”

There is no need to fret, as the department has put together a full complement of programs that challenge both the minds and bodies of restless youngsters, and they’re all right here in Prosper.

Affordable, engaging and challenging activities, both indoor and outdoor, are designed to appeal to kids of all ages and interests, and fall into three broad categories, Sports and Activity Camps and Classes; Bricks 4 Kidz ® Camps; and Engineering for Kids ® Camps.

In the Sports and Activity Camps and Classes category are: Archery; Basketball; Flag Football Tech; Beginner Golf; Magic; Rookies Multi Sport; Soccer Sparks; Speed Sport; and Tennis.

Bricks 4 Kidz ® Camps include: EV3 Robotics; Brick Cities Engineering; Brick Hero Academy; Galaxy Far Away; Mining & Crafting; and Transformation Creation.

And, as part of the Engineering for Kids ® Camps are: 3D Printing; Minecraft Creations; Amazing Race; Building Cities Engineering; Electronic Game Design; Medieval Machinations; and Software Engineering Scratch Video.

Many of these programs are designed along the same curriculum as the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs in local schools.

Registration is now open and can be completed online at  The site includes information on specific dates, times, locations, costs and how to sign up.

Programs run from June through August. Preference will be given to those who sign up early, as space is limited.

In July, Prosper will participate in National Park and Recreation Month, sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) by providing a calendar of family events in conjunction with the national effort.

The Prosper Parks and Recreation Department produces a year-round schedule of activities and events which promote family and neighbor interaction in community parks, including recreational programs for adults and youth and the Prosper Fishing Derby, Community Picnic and Christmas Festival.  Information is readily available on Facebook at
