The Town of Prosper today announced the departure of longtime Town Manager Harlan Jefferson. Jefferson, who served Prosper across nearly a decade of some of its most pivotal growth, tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning.
“I am grateful to have known and worked with Harlan Jefferson throughout the years he served the Town of Prosper,” said Prosper Mayor David Bristol. “Harlan played an important role in the growth and development of Prosper and history will forever note the impact his leadership had on the transformation the Town has experienced during his time here.”
Jefferson arrived in Prosper in 2013 when the population of the Town was approximately 12,000. During his service, Prosper’s population skyrocketed to over 35,000 residents and the number of businesses multiplied exponentially. Property values increased from $1.4 billion to $5.4 billion. Town infrastructure also saw a complete overhaul under Harlan Jefferson’s leadership and the number of Town staff grew from 112 to over 300.
“I am so proud to have served the people and the businesses of Prosper, Texas for the last nine years,” said Prosper Town Manager Harlan Jefferson. “I am thoughtful today of so many colleagues and volunteers who served by my side over the years and saw this small community on the far reaches of North Dallas develop into the booming commercial and residential giant that is the Prosper of today. I am fortunate to have been a part of this outstanding staff team and I am proud of the accomplishments we shared. I am also thankful to the Town Council members whom I have worked with over the years for allowing me to serve this community as the Town Manager. I have learned a great deal from all of them and they have been instrumental in my development as a professional.”
Jefferson will continue to serve as Town Manager through July 28, 2022. Having started a consulting company with his wife seven years ago, Jefferson plans to spend more time in that endeavor.
A search to find a new Prosper Town Manager will begin immediately.
