Two public meetings set for early January

December 19, 2019

Back-to-back public input meetings, one an open forum seeking feedback and ideas on downtown, and the other an active workshop on hike and bike trails, are scheduled for early January.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Council Chambers on the first floor of Town Hall, 250 W. First Street, an open forum will be hosted and conducted by the Parks and Recreation staff seeking feedback, input, ideas, and suggestions on how to best utilize the open spaces in the downtown area, referred to as Old Town in Prosper’s Comprehensive Plan.

The Town Council and staff are hoping citizens offer their preferences for any proposed public open spaces, amenities, features, and facilities that will both enhance the experience for downtown visitors and maintain the uniqueness of Prosper’s historically significant downtown.

Input from the open forum will be recorded, studied, evaluated, and prioritized for presentation to the appropriate decision-making entities.  Further community input will be sought as plans for the area approach implementation.

On the following evening, Thursday, Jan. 9, a workshop that will include active participation by attendees, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.  Focus of the Jan. 9 workshop will be the evolving Hike and Bike Trails Master Plan.  The workshop will directly follow the Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board, which begins at 6 p.m. in the same location.

The workshop will provide opportunities for residents to discuss priorities for walking, cycling and using trails throughout Prosper.  Maps, diagrams, charts, and material to provide direct input on these topics will be part of the program, and active participation by attendees will be encouraged.

Again, the results of the workshop will be catalogued, reviewed and distilled for further study and presentation to appropriate decision-making bodies.  As with the downtown plan, further community input will be sought prior to finalization of the Master Plan.

Finally, an online survey will be posted in late January to gather additional information and feedback from the community on the Hike and Bike Trails Master Plan.

More information about both public input meetings and the survey can be obtained by contacting Paul Naughton, Senior Park Planner, at paul_naughton@prospertx.gov or by calling 972-569-1063.
