The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is a “slice of life” anime with a twist: Saiki Kuso does his best to hide his psychic abilities from his “normal” high school classmates.  Although the focus of the series is Saiki’s secret and his interactions with his classmates, there is also a realistic depiction of life in a Japanese high school snuck into the background.

Many American high school and college students choose to study abroad.  This is such a great way to learn another language and experience other cultures.  Many slice of life anime actually include an American exchange student – it’s hard not to laugh at this caricature of ourselves!

One American exchange student to Japan has even shared videos of her daily life at a Japanese high school.  Almost all “slice of life” anime include episodes featuring the school’s sports festival days and the annual culture festival.
