    Trash and Recycling
  • Town of Prosper residents can place up to 4 cubic yards of bulk waste weekly on their trash and recycling service day. Bulk includes appliances, pieces of furniture, or other residential items that are too large for a cart. Hazardous waste, car parts, tires, and non-compactible items, such as bricks and concrete, will not be collected with regular bulk trash. Up to four cubic yards will be collected on your weekly scheduled bulk collection day, please refer to the Trash/Recycling and Bulk Schedule Map (PDF) to plan your bulk/brush collection pickup.

    Republic Services provides the following services to the residents of Prosper: 

    • Bulk collection services are provided on your designated collection pickup day. Place your brush/bulk at the curb before 7 a.m. 
    • Up to four cubic yards of bulk materials per collection.
    • If the appliance had refrigerant or Freon®, it must have a tag by a certified technician that the refrigerant or Freon has been removed.

  • Every Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon you may drop off extra trash and bulk trash items at 601 W. Fifth St. (Prosper Public Works Center). You must show proof of residency with a current Prosper utility bill. Please visit the Trash and Recycling page to check holiday closure dates.

  • On New Year's Day (January 1), Thanksgiving (November 28), and Christmas Day (December 25), collection services will be delayed by one day, with service resuming on the following day (Tuesday for New Year's Day, Friday for Thanksgiving, and Thursday for Christmas Day).

  • If your scheduled collection is missed, please call 945-234-1921 as soon as possible. Republic Services will make every effort to return on the same day for pickup. In the event the driver has already left the Town of Prosper, collection will take place the following day.

  • To schedule an Electronics Recycling or Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection, residents can fill out the online Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Fillable Form (PDF). Please save, fill out the form, and email it to prosper@republicservices.com. If you have any questions, please call Republic Services at 469.451.3713 or email prosper@republicservices.com. Upon scheduling, residents will receive the required bags for proper disposal.

  • Yard waste, including grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, tree trimmings, brush, and branches, must be placed in kraft bags or other sacks authorized by the Town. These containers should be designed specifically for storing yard waste and should not exceed 40 lbs.

    Residents can utilize this program once per year at no cost. To schedule a pickup or obtain required bags, visit the Town of Prosper website, call Republic Services at 469.451.3713, or email prosper@republicservices.com.

  • Yard waste will be collected weekly on your trash and recycling service day. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in brown biodegradable bags in order to be recycled. Unlimited tied and bundled brush will also be accepted. Use only biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string to tie and bundle tree and brush trimmings. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials.

  • Yes, limbs or brush must be cut into lengths of 4 feet or less. Additionally, they must be securely tied, with no limbs exceeding 6 inches in diameter. Bundles must not exceed 50 lbs.

  • No, debris resulting from the services of a commercial tree service provider is not permitted for disposal with yard waste. Residents are advised to follow the specified guidelines for acceptable yard waste items.

  • No, there are no additional costs for the required bags provided for Electronics Recycling or HHW pickup. The service is offered at no cost to Prosper residents.

  • Yes, the biodegradable yard waste bag must be tied. Use only biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string to tie and bundle tree and brush trimmings. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials. Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged, no loose brush will be accepted. 

    Yard waste must be placed in kraft bags or other sacks authorized by the Town designed to store yard waste of grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, tree trimmings, brush and branches not to exceed 40 lbs. Limbs or brush must be cut into lengths of 4 feet or less and must be securely tied with no limbs exceeding 6 inches in diameter and no bundle exceeding 50 lbs.

  • Please remove all gas and oil from the item. The homeowner can place the item for bulk trash pick up on their bulk trash pick up day or use the Saturday drop-off service at the Public Works building located at 601 W. Fifth St between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. You must show proof of residency with a current Prosper utility bill.

  • The trash and recycle carts should stay at the address for the new tenants. Our Utility Customer Service department advises that you leave them inside the garage for the new tenants.   • Yes, there is a landfill within the City of Melissa, Texas, located at 3820 Sam Rayburn Highway (SH 121). There is a fee to use the landfill. You may not use the Custer Road transfer station in Plano, Texas. For up-to-date costs and hours call (469) 626-4452
